Going ga ga for garlands!

Showcasing bunting in action
In my current Instagram addiction I am soaking up some inspiration for wall decorations. And one sweet way to add colour to a room is through the use of garlands and buntings. The bunting has made a well deserved resurgence in recent years which has paved the way for a whole range of different styles and variations.

Garlands are popular as they provide a versatile and unobtrusive solution to add colour and shape along a large, blank space. They can be customised to suit any theme, colour and gender. Garlands can be adapted for the latest "on-trend" styles, like the current fondness for watermelons, ice-creams, and donuts. I totally see the appeal for such delicious sweetness! The variety of garland styles available is impressive and can be found in many materials types.

The classic bunting, some things just never date

Here are some of my favourites finds from Instagram. Rather than give each one a flowery description of their beauty and cleverness, let's just say I adore them all and each would give colour and effervescence to any part of the home.

Tassle garlands are not just a good way to "dress-up" a party space they are great for a permanent wall display.

The beauty of the garland is you can go your own way!

Another golden oldie that has made a recent reappearance for decorating the blank canvas that is our walls is the whimsical dream catcher. The feathers add a softness to the room and who wouldn't want to wish sweet dreams upon another.

Dream catchers make a come back
In my next post I share a recent DIY project of mine that is inspired by the whimsy of the dream catcher with the cleverness of the garland to create a feather and gold leaf garland. Stay tuned!

The blank canvas

The most exciting project I have on the go this year is the building of our dream home (within our budget). The planning stage of our new home went smoothly, swiftly and was a tonne of fun.

Before getting too excited about the prospect of a new home we had the emotional task of saying goodbye to the humble abode that was our home for the last 7 years. This was the home that saw us through many firsts. The first years of our married life and the beginnings of our little family. So much joy, laughter, tears and fears were shared within those walls, it's easy to get sentimental about pulling it down.

Our reasons for rebuilding as opposed to renovating were many, with the pros outweighing the cons. The process of pulling down the house was surprisingly quick and brutal  which was quite the thrill for our four year old boy. You can see why it was so ruthless with the size of the machinery. The house never stood a chance!

The bulldozer dwarfs the house

There she goes...

And just like that...rubble!

In the end I am left with this big, beautiful, blank canvas. I can't wait to watch the house grow and I look forward to sharing the progress of the building with you as the house takes shape. To my absolute glee with a new home comes the need for redecorating and fresh styling which is already making me giddy with excitement. I will be planning, selecting and collecting styling ideas and room inspirations that I adore and sharing those along the way.

The Blank Canvas awaits

My crafty past!

As mentioned I have a history of enjoying getting my craft on and dabbling in a bit of DIY. It's rare that I don't have a project on the go or one in the pipe works. And if I don't it's probably because the "serious stuff" in life is invading the time I have for such luxuries and pleasures as hobbies and creating. Wouldn't it be wonderful if my hobbies became my "serious stuff" (I'm working on that).

Prior to motherhood I was a teacher which was the perfect outlet for getting my creative fix. Since motherhood I have had several exciting roles which have kept me busy for intermittent periods of time and during this time I have discovered the joy of using my creativity for my kids, my family, my friends benefit and to beautify my environment.

Here's a sample collection of a few of my previous projects, some more successful than others.

Welcome!

This space is a collective for all the things I adore. I am a lover of creativity in all it's forms; interior design, art work, handmade crafts, writing, photography, music and fashion. I see creativity as an expression of our connection with this amazing world and those we share it with.

I have started this blog as my love for interior design and styling grows. I love creating simple DIY projects that add beauty to a space. Up-cycling items to give them a new lease of life and regenerating them for a modern living space is a real thrill. I love seeing the fruits of my labour and this site will be a place to collect and share these fruits.

A junkie of instagram, pinterest, etsy and facebook this blog will provide the space for ideas, inspiration, storing and sharing. There is an endless supply of beautiful things out there to admire and so much talent. I am by no means a master of this talent just a lover of it! (A dabbler perhaps?)

I feel the wanderlust for travel, appreciate reading and penning the written word and wish I was more skilled in capturing beauty through the lens.

One of the most important projects I have this year is the building of my dream home (within budget constraints) so as a guilty pleasure I will be sharing that journey here.

Enjoy!
